In conclusion, Murasaki Shikibu was truly an important figure in Japanese literary history. Much of our knowledge of the nobles’ lives during the Heian period came from Murasaki’s detailed accounts in her diary. She also left many poems and the famous Tale of Genji, which is considered to be the “world's first psychological novel” and “ one of the longest and most distinguished masterpieces of Japanese literature”. Can you imagine life without amazing novels like Harry Potter, Divergent, and The Hunger Games? If not for Murasaki Shikibu, novels might not have been written. After all, she was one of the first authors to write a fictional novel. So Murasaki Shikibu was not only influential to literature in Japan, but worldwide. We are extremely grateful to Murasaki Shikibu for all she wrote and published!
